Nine O'Clock Players
Theatre for Children Program
Founded in 1929, the Assistance League Theatre is one of the oldest continuously performing children’s theatres in the United States. Our mission for 97 years has been to introduce children to the magic of live performance, literature, and music through the joy of theatre.
The Nine O’Clock Players’ (“NOP”) Theatre for Children Program annually hosts more than 7,000 children from the Los Angeles area. NOP annually provides full musical productions of classic children’s literature with life lessons adapted for children today.

Field Trips
Field trips to the theatre, at no or low cost, are provided to school children and families, particularly low-income and special needs students who might not be otherwise exposed to the magic of live theatre.
This year’s production is OZ!, a retelling of L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, a story written solely to pleasure children in 1900. Today join Dorothy and Toto on the Yellow Brick Road and their journey to see the Wizard of Oz, meeting the Scarecrow, Tin Woodsman and Cowardly Lion along the way. Per the introduction in the original book, “It aspires to being a modernized fairy tale, in which the wonderment and joy are retained and the heart-aches and nightmares are left out.”

OZ!
The timeless classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum comes to life as a dazzling musical. After a cyclone sweeps Dorothy and Toto into the magical Land of Oz, Dorothy’s house lands on the Wicked Witch of the East and squashes her! The Munchkins celebrate, and Glinda the Good Witch gives Dorothy the powerful silver slippers. Dorothy then follows the Yellow Brick Road to find the great Wizard. Along the way, she meets three lovable companions—the rubber-legged Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion, and the Tin Woodsman—and together they face thrilling adventures. Will the Wicked Witch of the West and her flying monkeys stop them from reaching Oz? Will Dorothy and Toto ever return home to Kansas? Filled with memorable songs, special effects, and perhaps a glitterball or two, OZ! is a fantastic adventure for the whole family.
