Job Opening- Preschool Teacher




Overview of Organization:
Assistance League of Los Angeles exists to turn despair into hope amongst LA’s most vulnerable population: children living in poverty. Our programs provide educational support, arts enrichment, quality preschool, school uniforms and supplies, and emergency clothing and supplies to foster children. The League helps remove barriers to education, helping disadvantaged kids stay in school so they may lead fulfilling, productive lives.

Overview of Position:

Plan, supervise and implement an age-appropriate curriculum for children and design activities to meet each child’s needs. Must ensure the development and safety of children in compliance with relevant federal, state and municipal legislation and policies. Must be respectful of children and parents and ensure that equipment and facilities are clean, safe and well maintained.


Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop an age-appropriate curriculum that focuses on the needs of each child in accordance with the State Department of Education, Child Development Division, Desired Results and NAEYC standards
  • Direct activities of the teaching team/teacher’s assistants under your supervision
  • Actively supervise children in your care: in the classroom, during indoor/outdoor activities, restrooms, and nap time at all times
  • Teaching staff supervise children’s safety at all times
  • Maintain attendance records indoors, outdoors, and during meals at all times
  • Set up children’s portfolio system for organizing children’s observations and forms of evidence and documentation for CDE and NAEYC
  • Complete annual Environment Rating Scale for the designated classroom, following ECERS guidelines
  • Maintain records of each child’s progress, development and behavior for periodic reports to parents
  • Submit a weekly lesson plan based upon Desired Results and NAEYC standards
  • Maintain an attractive, safe, clean, orderly and happy classroom environment following ECERS, NAEYC and Licensing standards
  • Be familiar with emergency procedures
  • Provide weekly and monthly schedules of indoor/outdoor curriculum activities based on CDE and NAEYC standards
  • Serve Family Style children’s meals in accordance with nutritional guidelines following CDE and CACFP regulations; prepare meals periodically as needed
  • Discuss all concerns regarding children, parents, co-workers or volunteers with the Programs Director or Director of Assistance League Preschool Learning Center
  • Assist in the development of appropriate curriculum activities which comply with Title 22, Title V, CACFP, ECERS and NAEYC best practices
  • Attend mandatory CDE/CACFP/NAEYC, licensing training and meetings as needed
  • Other duties as assigned


Education and Experience:

  • Minimum two years’ work experience working with children in a preschool setting
  • Strong communication skills



  • California Teacher’s credential in Child Development or minimum of 24 Early Childhood Education units and continuing professional development
  • Teacher and/or Associate Teacher Permit required
  • Minimum of two years of classroom teaching
  • Fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice, FBI, and Child Abuse Index
  • Health and Safety Certificate
  • Health clearance, Immunization record updated with proof of TB test and CPR/First Aid certification


Salary commensurate on experience – medical, dental, vision, 401k and paid time off;


8:30 AM – 5:30 PM (Must be flexible; hours can vary depending on children’s schedule.)

Preschool is a year-round school. (Age range: 3-5)
