Hot off the press!
Family Day of Service registration has officially reached capacity!
But don’t worry, you can still participate in our goal of providing warmth to at least 100 youth in foster care by making no-sew fleece blankets at home and delivering them to our office, or donating to Foster Children’s Resource Center by clicking here.
What you will need:
- 2 yards of patterned fleece anti-pill fabric and 2 yards of solid print fabric
- Sharp or fabric scissors
- Flat surface
Step 1: Lay the blanket fabric flat
Step 2: Line Up the Two Fabric Pieces
(Line up the two fabrics with the fuzzier/more vibrant side facing outward)
Step 3: Trim to the Same Size if Necessary.
Step 4: Cut Out Each Corner.
Use a square template to cut a 5-inch square from each of the four corners.
Step 5: Cut the Fringe on All Four Sides.
Cut through both layers of fabric at the same time. Fringe pieces should be wider than the width of your finger but doesn’t have to be exact. Lay a piece of string across the fabric (5 inches in from the edge) to use as a guide. Since you are in teams of 4, each person can cut the fringe on their side
Step 6: Begin Tying Knots
Lay blanket flat with all fringes lined up. Hold both the top and bottom fringe piece and tie a simple knot (see below).
Step 7: Repeat on Each Side.
Make sure the knots are snug up to the blanket, but not too tight. The finished blanket should lay flat. If it starts to bunch up, pull the fabrics apart gently.
You are Finished! 😊
Our office is open Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm and is located at 826 Cole Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90038. Please call us at 323-469-1973 to arrange for a drop off. Blankets will be collected until December 14th (note our offices will be closed November 21st and 22nd).
