Our first Legacy of Literacy book drive event took place on Saturday, February 24th and was a huge success!
The event was held at our beautiful Theatre for Children in Hollywood in conjunction with our Founder’s Day celebration in memory of Assistance League founder, Anne Banning. Throughout the country, members from 120 Assistance League chapters joined together to host a nationwide book drive in support of child literacy. Our Los Angeles Chapter alone collected over 11,000 books and dictionaries for children pre-k through high school.
The book drive attracted support from many individuals, in addition to large donations from organizations like Big Sunday, Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP, Reforma Los Angeles, Children’s Book World and Lainer School of Sinai Temple.
Thank you to Assistance League of Los Angeles members, friends and family who sorted, counted and packed the books for delivery to our three service programs: Preschool Learning Center, Operation School Bell and the Foster Children’s Resource Center. We would also like to congratulate our members who celebrated their service anniversaries as part of Founder’s Day and were recognized for 5-year milestones.
Although the book drive was a huge success, we can still use new or gently used children’s books year-round. If you would like to donate, please contact Kai Tramiel, Director of Membership and Community Outreach at firstname.lastname@example.org or 323-572-9493.
